Adrian VK4RV & Jessica VK4FJAR

Both been busy with 'remote system" on tests especially with HRD/Skype audio - which is basically at 100% completion. Just a few small items to fix up [see below].
Try a direct link to Adrian VK4RV/VK4FJAR website via "http://users.tpg.com.au/vk4rv/" - nb - please note that this site is currently under development.

Jon VK4CY

UHF - 2m & 70cms - local activity only.

VLF/MF/HF - 137KHz to 6m - Nice to see the DX 'rolling in' during the afternoons. VK9X/G6RY has been very active - even audible here but missed out ! T6, 9U, audible here as well and again no QSOs. R1FJM though called me so, don't feel too bad. All this on CW by the way. Resumption on kit bashing with more parts now in for the 137KHz transmitters.

PSK31 In spite of 'good intentions' not much done over last week.

6M DX - Nice to see the JA's reporting VK TV plus Chinese TV & vice versa. Yahoo. Still not worked our friend on Willis Island. Was hoping to have our vertical antenna up by now but with some very inclement weather around plus the inability to get more than 24 hours out of a day, its still on the 'to be done list'.

Station - small items required to complete. 137KHz transmitter project; Hy-Gain DX-88 site inspection and support system; 160m Loop antenna; re-site BWD dipole plus associated mast/tower with 6m, 2m & 70cms antennae; Find a 'benevolent bank' and a series of 48 hour day(s) or is it daze?? QED.

JESSICA WATSON on "PINK LADY"

is now in the western Indian Ocean having rounded Cape Aghulas/Cape of Good Hope - South Africa - next stop Tasmania then Sydney. Wow.
Must admit being a trifle puzzled at who is advising her to travel northwards into the Indian Ocean especially when the known 'pirates' will have being monitoring her progress. These guys obviously have a 'mother vessel(s)' hence their ability to range far and wide - why they [the mother vessels'] haven't been sorted out defies description. Not happy guys as I'd hate to (a) think of the price of ransom and (b) all the other ensuing problems. By the way, if some of you think piracy is a thing of the past, think again as it is very much alive in the 21st Century and not just confined to Eastern Africa.
To check out her current location, click on her name in 'green' Jessica Watson, and view her tracker site/blog sites etc. or you can access her site via the "LINKS" page access

NEWS FLASH:-

"Chilean Earthquake"

Attention All Amateurs.

IARU Region 2 and Radio Club de Chile Request Amateurs to Keep Emergency Frequencies Clear (Feb 27, 2010)
A massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake hit Chile today at 0634 UTC, triggering a potential tsunami. IARU Region 2 and the Red Chilena Nor Austral de Servicio (RECNA) have suggested Amateur Radio operators monitor the following emergency communications frequencies for traffic pertaining to the earthquake and tsunami: 3.738, 3.750, 7.050, 7.100, 14.200, 14.350, 21.200, 21.350, 28.300 and 28.500 MHz. IARU Region 2 Area Emergency Coordinator Jorge Sierra, LU1AS, reports that there is now traffic at frequencies of 40 meters from people seeking information from people in Chile: "We would appreciate if amateurs would leave free the frequencies used by RECNA, as well as the usual IARU Region 2 frequencies on in 20, 40, and 80 meters." In addition to the above frequencies, you may also want to listen to the worldwide emergency communication Center of Activity frequencies: 14.300, 18.160 and 21.360 MHz. Other suggested monitoring frequencies are 3.720, 7.045 and 7.060 MHz. Hawaiian Amateur Radio operators on the lookout for a possible tsunami are monitoring 7.088 and 3.888 MHz. -- Thanks to Radio Club de Chile's (RCC) Emergency Coordinator Aldo Oppici, CE3WAD, and W2VU, KI6SN, K3ZO, PY2ZX, PY5YA and El Grupo Argentino de Radiotelegrafia for the information.
[Info. ARRL - 27FEBRUARY.2010 relayed to VK4CY 01MARCH.2010 - for attention of all Radio Amateurs]

Doctor Galdino Besomi CE3PG Radio Club de Chile (RCCH) president informs us via the RAC that soon after the earthquake, their Emergency Net was activated throughout the whole country, first on VHF and them in HF. All the board and club members are actively working in close coordination with civil and military authorities. The request for news about people in the affected countryside areas is one the main activities occupying the radio amateurs. IARU Region 2 Area Emergency Coordinator Jorge Sierra, LU1AS reports that traffic on the 40m band has included health and welfare inquiries with people seeking information about the well-being of their relatives and friends in the affected areas of southern Chile. The death toll following the 8.8 Richter scale magnitude earthquake is about 800 with authorities expecting to rise further as rescue crews dig into more collapsed buildings and find bodies.
More than 500,000 structures were destroyed and millions of people displaced or left homeless. At the request of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) and the Red Chilena Nor Austral Servicio (RECNA), all Radio Amateurs are requested to keep all IARU Centre of Activity Frequencies clear until further notice as health and welfare traffic is being passed to and from Chile.
As well, the RECNA requests that their call frequencies be avoided.

Australian Nets & Data:

VK - AUSTRALIA - 137KHz CW BEACON UPDATE:-

VK3XU Drew Diamond now has an operational CW 137KHz beacon operating on 137.40KHz. Operating time(s) are EVERY Saturday and Sunday afternoon(s)/evening(s)[Local time]. Please note that Victoria [VK3] localtime is currently GMT + 11 hours Eastern Daylight Savingtime.
ANY SWL reports please via my E-mail address below.

Additional information can also be found on the "Radio Focus" link which shows the operational 'home brew' beacon/station built by Drew VK3XU plus the progress on the VK4CY/VK4RV 137KHz transmitter.

ANZA NET

Do not forget to check into the ANZA Net - daily on 14183KHz SSB at 0515Z & weekends on 21205KHz SSB at 0500Z. A few Mid-Eastern and Eastern European stations are now more frequent then of late. Incidently when Percy Anderson VK3PA later VK4CPA started the ANZA [Australian New Zealand Africa Net] along with Bill VK4UA, ZS2OM, ZL1ANF etc. the prime frequency was 21205KHz, the 14183KHz frequency was the secondary channel especially when band conditions and low propagation levels exist. Not sure but believe this is one of the oldest [in terms of VK/ZL operational] nets still functioning. Sadly OM Percy is now SK, Bill VK4UA (- SEE PIC CLICK HERE) is now located at Manly but no where as active, Maurice ZL1ANF is still active running the Net every Friday and many other old mates have sadly passed on. Gary & XYL Mary ZL1KJ are basically on 2m, 70cms, Voip [Echolink & Skype]. For those chasing VK, ZL & Pacific Island stations check in as once the 'bands improve' this will be a popular VK/ZL SSB Net. By the way, need photos. of the current Net Controllers plus long time supporters of ANZA, Jim E51JD; Len KH0AC etc
